The history of Boring machine

- Nov 16, 2017-

Due to the need to manufacture weapons, hydraulic-powered barrel boring machines have appeared in 15th century. After the 1769 J. Watt obtained the patent of the utility steam engine, the machining precision of the cylinder became the key problem of the steam engine. 1774 British J. Wilkinson (also translated John Wilkinson) invented the barrel boring machine, the next year for the Watt steam engine processing cylinder body. He made a more precise cylinder boring machine in 1776. Before and after 1880, in Germany began to produce front and rear column and table horizontal boring machine. In order to adapt to the oversize, special heavy workpiece processing, the 1930s developed the floor boring machine. With the increase of milling work, the ground boring and milling machine appeared in the 50 's. At the beginning of 20th century, because of the development of the timepiece manufacturing industry, it was necessary to process the equipment with less error, and the coordinate boring machine appeared in Switzerland. In order to improve the positioning accuracy of boring machine, optical reading head or digital display device has been widely used. Some boring machines also use digital control system to achieve coordinate positioning and process automation.
